Disney and Swarovski to Launch Alice in Wonderland Inspired Jewelry Collection

March 14th, 2010

In celebration of the highly anticipated Walt Disney Pictures film Alice In Wonderland, Disney Consumer Products and Swarovski, the world’s largest producer of cut crystal, are launching an all new collection of jewellery pieces. Consumers will be taken inside the world of “Underland to commune with the unexpectedly mad and caring characters in the latest film by Tim Burton. Capturing the spirit of each character in the film, the line features a host of vintage and gothic details inspired by the outlandish personalities found down the rabbit hole, and demonstrate the attention to detail in products that are the result of the long collaboration between Disney and Swarovski.

Another dimension of oddity in jewelry

August 2nd, 2009

When most people think of incorporating wool into their accessories, jewelry does not necessarily spring to mind. Scarves, hats, gloves, sure, but necklaces and rings? Earrings and bracelets? As surprising as this pairing may first seem, the unique and absolutely stunning outcome is phenomenal. Zorica “Zoe Djukic takes the awkward pair and gives them yet another dimension of oddity. Her jewelry plays on the art of felting … and she’s felting some pretty interesting pieces. Djukic, who is a native Serbian, has always been a creatively driven individ…Read more »

Jewelers sticking with what sells

It didn’t take the prognostication powers of The Amazing Kreskin to predict that there would be fewer retailers at the recent jewelry shows in Las Vegas, nor that those attending would be buying less.

Those buying were, for the most part, sticking with pieces that they were confident would sell: sterling silver and bridal.

“Caution is the word of the day,” said Ron Wolff of Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry in El Paso, Texas.

In addition to downsized open-to-buy plans, retailers also seemed to arrive at the show with a w…Read more »

Her unique jewelry has star appeal

July 10th, 2009

NANTUCKET - Are sales of Jessica Hicks’s most popular necklace - an oversize yet delicate peace sign - driven solely by legions of style-conscious pacifists? Maybe.

But actress Jessica Biel’s love for the piece might also have something to do with it.

“She’s been wearing it like crazy and everyone asks about it,’’ the Nantucket jewelry designer said, sitting in her new store, Posh on South Water Street.

Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, and scads of other starlets also have been spotted in Hicks’s whimsical silver paisley earrings, agate pendants, and cocktail rings.

The designer’s celebrity connection came in 2004, when Hicks introduced herself to Sarah Jessica Parker at a Nantucket AIDS benefit. The two chatted, and Hicks later sent…Read more »
